A senior Swiss diplomat has died after falling from a high-rise building in the Iranian capital of Tehran, local media has reported.
The 51-year-old woman was the Swiss embassy’s first secretary, a spokesperson for emergency services told the Mehr news agency.
Police in the Kamraniyeh neighborhood called paramedics to the scene on Tuesday morning, but the woman had been dead for some time, Mojtaba Khaledi told the agency.
The Swiss foreign ministry has confirmed an employee died in an accident, the BBC reported.
“The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and its head Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis are shocked by the tragic death and express their deepest condolences to the family,” a ministry spokesperson said.
The ministry added that it was in touch with the woman’s family and Iranian authorities, but gave no further details about the circumstances of the death, citing data protection and privacy reasons.
