White House Says No Plans to Require Vaccines for Foreign Visitors

The White House said on Friday it has no plans to require foreign visitors to the United States to be vaccinated for COVID-19, even as the European Union plans to allow Americans who have received their shots to travel in the bloc. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki also said there was no update on when the U.S. might allow in more foreign visitors. “We certainly understand the desire of many Europeans to come to travel the United States and vice versa,” Psaki said. “We can’t respond to public pressure or even emotion. We have to rely on the guidance of our health and medical experts.”

Removal of Confederate Names Could Affect Hundreds of Sites

The push to remove Confederate names from Pentagon properties, including storied Army posts, could eventually affect hundreds of items and facilities, the chair of the congressionally chartered Naming Commission said Friday. Michelle Howard, a retired Navy admiral who heads the commission, told reporters her group began its work in March, with an interim report due to Congress in October and a final report a year later. She said the eight-member group is still developing the renaming criteria and will begin its site visits with a trip to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. The academy faces scrutiny because it has a barracks named for Robert E. Lee, commanding general of the rebel army of the Confederate States

White House Proposes Lower $1.7T Infrastructure in GOP Talks

The White House put forward a $1.7 trillion infrastructure counteroffer Friday to Senate Republicans, dropping from President Joe Biden’s sweeping $2.3 trillion proposal “in the spirit of finding common ground.” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki disclosed the new offer as talks were still underway between key Cabinet secretaries and GOP senators at a crucial stage toward a deal. Skepticism had been rising on all sides amid complaints about the lack of significant movement off the opening bids. Republicans had offered a $568 billion plan. “This proposal exhibits a willingness to come down in size,” she said at the press briefing. The White House and Republican senators have been in talks ever since Biden met with a core group of

Rasmussen: Almost Half of Conservatives Say Fox News Not ‘Favorite’

Almost half of conservative voters say Fox News Channel isn’t their favorite source for television news, with numbers surging for Newsmax at a time when viewers say they’ve changed their preferred network over the past year, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey.  The poll found that 17% of conservative news viewers watch Newsmax most often; 9% say they watch One America News (OAN) and 20% saying they prefer “some other network,” for a total of 46% saying they prefer networks other than Fox News, which netted 52% of the conservative viewers.  The survey of 935 conservative likely voters was conducted on May 17-20, and carried a margin of sampling error of three percentage points, with a

Biden Bestows Medal of Honor on Korean War Vet; SKorean President on Hand

President Joe Biden awarded his first Medal of Honor on Friday to a 94-year-old retired Army colonel for bravery under enemy fire more than a half-century ago in the Korean War. It took a policy change for retired Col. Ralph Puckett Jr. to receive the military’s highest honor. The 2020 defense policy bill removed a requirement that such awards be given within five years of a valorous act. “Today we are hosting a true American hero and awarding an honor that is long overdue — more than 70 years overdue,” Biden said during the East Room ceremony. “Though I understand that your first response to us hosting this event was to ask why all the fuss.” Biden said Puckett had

‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Surprises Girl Who Fought Off Kidnapper

An 11-year-old “Law & Order: SVU” fan — whose fight to keep from being snatched by a  kidnapper made national headlines — was ecstatic this week when she got to meet the show’s star, Mariska Hargitay.  “I’m so incredibly honored to meet you,” the actor told Alyssa Bonal during a remote conversation Friday on “Today.” “I just want to tell you how blown away me and all of my squad are and I think the whole world right now that you had the forethought and the wherewithal to do what you did and I am just blown away,” Hargitay continued. The attempted kidnapping took place on Tuesday. Alyssa was standing by a bus stop, playing with homemade blue slime, when a man pulled

Rep. Mark Green: Biden’s Migrant Move ‘Facilitating Human Trafficking’

Rep. Mark Green Friday accused President Joe Biden and his administration of “facilitating human trafficking” by allowing migrant children to fly unannounced into Tennessee after GOP Gov. Bill Lee turned down the government’s request to send them there.  “We got here because Joe Biden did away with the asylum agreements, and the drug cartels are grabbing these children, coming across Central America, dumping them at our border, and getting into our country,” the Tennessee Republican said on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends.” “Basically, Biden’s facilitating human trafficking, and then they’ve got to figure out what to do,” he added.  Green’s comments come after media reports, citing unnamed sources, said at least four planes carrying unaccompanied minor migrants had landed in Chattanooga

Alabama Removes Ban on Yoga in Public Schools

Yoga is now legal in Alabama public schools. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, a Republican, signed into law a bill permitting the state’s public schools to offer yoga instruction. The state Board of Education had banned yoga in 1993 because of its connections to Hinduism, AL.com reported. State Rep. Jeremy Gray, a Democrat, had sponsored the bill and lawmakers approved it on Monday night. The law clears the way for schools to begin offering it as an elective class or activity starting in the next school year. Gray noted some schools are already doing yoga-like activities but use a different name, such as mindfulness movement, according to AL.com. Gray, who played football at North Carolina State, started practicing yoga during his
